Home care: A necessary service for a fairer healthcare system

🩺 Home care is part of treatment – not a luxury.

In Greece, every day, thousands of patients with serious health problems, such as oncological cases or people who have suffered a stroke, need specialized care at home.
Despite the fact that insurance companies cover the administration of medications or products (e.g. parenteral nutrition preparations), do not cover the necessary nursing service who will take care of the administration safely.

The result is a significant gap in continuity of care: the patient and family are left alone at a critical moment, forced to cover privately a service that should be considered essential.

👉 A fair and realistic solution would be to recognition of certified nurses as health service providers in EOPYY, with corresponding coverage as already applies to other health professionals.

Such a step would:

  • Strengthened the equal access all patients to quality care.

  • It reduced the inconvenience and cost for families.

  • It ensured the continuation of treatment, from the clinic to the home.

The discussion about the future of home care is more relevant today than ever.
Why home care it is not a supplement, it is part of the treatment.
